What is Online Learning?
Online Learning uses technology to facilitate learning without the constraints of time or place. Students can access course material, exchange ideas with faculty and other students, and submit course assignments via the web. The online courses at Columbia Union College follow an academic schedule similar to a campus-based course, but online learning offers the flexibility of learning at your own pace, within course deadlines. Using your computer you can study and take classes anywhere there is an internet connection. The classes are instructor-led and interactive. Our courses encourage student-faculty dialogue and student-to-student interaction through electronic means.

Is online learning for me?
Expectations of the students

You must have the ability to be a self-directed learner—able to stay current with assignments, participate in online discussions, and have the self-discipline to stay on task.

Because much of the learning experience utilizes written text and written discussions, strong writing and language skills are beneficial.

How the technology will be used

Online learning takes advantage of the web and computer technology to bring the classroom to you. You should be comfortable using the Internet, downloading software, and uploading assignments.

Amount of participation expected

The learner is expected to participate in online discussions, chats, and group work as assigned. The expected time commitment is 5-10 hours per week.
