Center for Law and Public Policy

• Mentor young Seventh-day Adventists interested in pursuing careers in law and government
• Nurture community among Adventist attorneys and public policy makers
• Advocate public policy from an Adventist perspective

Guided by this vision, the Center aids aspiring Adventists at the colligate and graduate level by promoting interest in law and public policy. The Center encourages students to participate in internship opportunities throughout the greater Washington, D.C. area. For those students interested in the law, the Center sponsors the Columbia Union College Mock Trial team, the only such program in Adventism. The team travels across the country as they argue a mock case against the nation's top schools. Scholarships of either $1,500 or $3,000 are provided to the students on the team. The Center also organizes conferences and seminars to provide opportunities for fellowship and to inform Adventist attorneys and public policy-makers on current issues. Young Adventists have the opportunity to meet those who are involved in their particular field of interest and learn from firsthand experience.

Furthermore, the Center creates and produces a weekly radio program called “Religion in the Public Square.” The 15-minute, documentary style program features interviews with people who are using their religious faith for social and political action in their government and their communities. The Center offers opportunities to students interested in broadcast journalism or similar technical experience to produce and edit the program as well as publish the program on the Internet.
